In the city of Lubumbashi, the heart of Haut-Katanga province, a group of young people are redefining the codes of education and community leadership. The Congolese English Community (CEC) was born of a collective dream: to promote the learning of English as a tool for social, economic and cultural emancipation.
Composed mainly of young leaders, the CEC is committed to teaching English, sharing their language skills with other young people eager to master this international language. Aware of the importance of English in a globalized world, these young people see the language as a vector of communication, opportunity and influence.
The group decided to reinforce its vision by appointing Dr. Debora Kayembe, an inspiring personality known for her commitment to social justice and human rights. The choice of Dr. Debora Kayembe reflects CEC’s desire to surround itself with mentors capable of guiding its members in their mission.
Last Saturday, at the Hypnose building, CEC members gathered for a meeting that mapped out the vision for the next three years. The meeting, which began at 2.18pm and closed at 3.56pm, brought together a team made up of Merdi Kalombo, Moses Kazadi, Braélac Loick Lukusa, Jedjiah Kadima, Moses Ilunga, Chris Maloba, Betty Nswan, Bob Bihango, Prince Mayombo, and Israel Musong.
During this session, members set objectives for the next three years:
1. Train the population to become fluent in English, a key tool for personal and professional development.
2. Carry out 15 wellness interviews, to raise awareness and support people in discussions focused on individual and collective development.
3. Promote social justice and human rights, by educating and mobilizing around these universal values.
4. Fighting poverty
To better realize its vision, CEC aims to have a head office within the next three years. This will serve as a base for their training and activities. They also plan to organize annual team-building sessions, to strengthen the cohesion and motivation of their members.
The meeting ended on a convivial note with a group photo session, immortalizing the moment.
Through their initiative, the young people of CEC demonstrate that learning English can be a powerful lever for transforming lives. By integrating social, educational and humanitarian dimensions into their mission, they prove that Congolese youth can play a major role in the development of their community.
With the support of Dr. Debora Kayembe, the Congolese English Community is on the way to becoming a model for positive change in Lubumbashi and beyond.
