In a world where social barriers and gender biases persist, Dr. Debora Kayembe Buba continually pushes the boundaries imposed on women and shatters established norms. On Monday, March 11, 2024, she became the first female ambassadorial figure of the University of Kinshasa, Unikin. Her exceptional journey and unwavering commitment to gender promotion, combating racism, and defending human rights have been rewarded with this prestigious title, bestowed during the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the University of Kinshasa.
Born out of a fervent desire to advance Congolese society and defend human rights, Dr. Debora Kayembe embodies courage, determination, and hope for a Democratic Republic of Congo developed with a key element: Humanity. Her appointment as Unikin’s ambassador marks a significant milestone in the history of this institution and reflects recognition of her exceptional contributions.
It is worth noting that during her visit to Kinshasa in October of last year, she met with the Rector of the University of Kinshasa, Professor Jean-Marie Kayembe, to discuss the challenges facing the institution. This meeting marked the beginning of a fruitful collaboration aimed at restoring Unikin’s reputation.
In January 2024, Professor Jean-Marie Kayembe Ntumba visited the University of Edinburgh, where Dr. Debora Kayembe Buba was then Rector, thus strengthening the ties between the two institutions and opening up new opportunities for cooperation.
Dr. Debora Kayembe’s leadership inspires the next generation of Congolese women to pursue their dreams and challenge social norms. As an ambassador of Unikin, she will continue to push boundaries and pave the way for a more inclusive and egalitarian future for all.
